Épée Basics
Épée fencing is the closest to historical duelling. Unlike the foil, épée target is anywhere on the body, from the tips of your toes, to the top of your head. That means you can be hit anywhere and it will count. As a result many hits are scored on the part closest to your opponent, which is your sword arm. This makes it a very tactical weapon.
Like the foil, points in épée are scored with the point of the weapon. Unlike foil however épée has no right of way and so if both fencers hit at the same time, each is awarded a hit.
