Plastron
Worn under the jacket, the plastron provides an extra layer of protection to your body on the side of your sword arm (some double sided plastrons are also available). Plastrons are required for all fencing but you should avoid buying one rated at 350N or below and look for one that is 800N as this level is required for electric fencing even in the club.
Lightweight versions are available which are more comfortable to wear but these are considerably more expensive.
